About the Author
DAVID HERING, editor of Consider David Foster Wallace: Critical Essays, is a PhD student at the University Of Liverpool, where he is currently researching the works of David Foster Wallace and Mark Z. Danielewski in relation to ideologies of choice, freedom and labyrinthine motifs and narratives. He tutors courses on Close Reading and Literary Theory, and lectures on 19th and 20th century American Fiction. His literary reviews have appeared in the Journal Of American Studies and Moveable Type, and he has given papers and spoken on Wallace and Danielewski at Harvard University, Trinity College Dublin, Strathclyde University, and the University Of Liverpool.

Has this book been edited or gone through anything resembling a peer review process? It seems unlikely when we read such clunkers as the following:
"In this paper I would like to attempt a brief reading of David Foster Wallace's "Brief Interviews With Hideous Men #20", the fourth and last homonymous story short story from his homonymous collection of short stories."
Or, from the same essay: "Too intelligent and too sincere to claim he can somehow hold on to or salvage love's authenticity, its "genuine" signified, Wallace will nevertheless choose to yield to this dreadful void, to immerse himself in the impossible."
The clunk, jargon and fluff aside, most of these essays read like undergrad papers, and many fail to move beyond the intentional framework Wallace laid out in his now unavoidable E Unibus Pluram essay: i.e. he's 'against irony', 'for sincerity', etc.
Anyone interested in academic perspectives on Wallace's work would be much better served turning toward established literary journals and publishers.
