About the Author
Sereniti Hall was born Dorothy Hall and raised in Augusta, Georgia. In 2004 she was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison. While in Marianna Federal Prison Camp, Sereniti began writing her first novel Feenin'. Feenin' was chosen on the Library Journal's top ten list for Street lit. Sereniti grew up on the streets of James Brown Boulevard and 9th street in her home town, which was known as the hood. She has two daughters, Rockell and Cleopatra and still resides in her hometown Augusta, Georgia. She was just released from prison and she's currently working on her next novel. This was an excellent read. Although I didn't realize that it was book 2 until I was half way into the book, I was still able to follow the characters. Characters they were. Infinity is a spoiled rotten brat that is so set on seeking revenge that she doesn't see her karma coming until it is too late. Venom is so confused and never quite figures out what she want out of life. Jazzy puts her job before everything. Armani does whatever Infinity tells her to do like a lost puppy. Then finally my favorite character, Tanisha shows how anybody can bounce back and end up on top. Great job Sereniti!! Look forward to lots more from this awesome author.

This 2nd book was better than the first. It was good to see the under dog come out on top. Sometimes an author will come back with a sequal and it miss the mark. But, Sereniti picked right up where she left off in the first book and kept it going. I reread the first book to cover all bases. It flowed from the beginning to the end. I can not wait for another book from this author. I hope she does come out with a Part 3 as long as it can flow like the pervious 2 if not then move on.

yo this book solidifies Ms. Hall as a bona fide author and I truly think that she can go in any direction with her writing and succeed. She doesn't have to stick to urban adventures she can tackle any topic and bring it to life I highly recommend following her work.

Good Summary

I read A Reformed Baptist Manifesto about three years ago when a some friends were encountering various Dispensational and Premillennial ideas. I found it necessary to take a look at more sources to better understand the arguments from different perspectives. I came across this, and found it to be a very helpful starting point, both concerning the doctrine of the end times, and other doctrines held as important by Reformed Baptists.
This is not essentially a book on the doctrine of the end times. As you might expect from the title, it intends to set forth something of the distinctives of Reformed Baptist teaching. The intent is not to offer a thesis on each subject covered, but to address a few topics simply and in an understandable way.

Pros:
-This is a short, easy to read book that any Christian could take and understand.
-The arguments are logical and easy to follow.
-The summaries, while short, include the fundamental points of the doctrines discussed.

Cons:
-It is only a beginning point, further study should be made by the reader on each subject.
-It only covers a limited set of topics

I think this is a great tool to help summarize, and introduce doctrines. Of course, reading the Bible, and gaining help from deeper works by puritans and sound theologians is a more thorough way to understand these matters. However, as a way of summarizing the arguments, giving the reader ways of explaining important doctrines and beliefs, and providing explanations to people searching for truth, this is an excellent resource. I recommend it to any Christian reader, beginner or experienced. A beginner will benefit from the explanations and be pointed to good passages for further study, while a more seasoned veteran of the faith will be given perhaps better ways of presenting the material.

A clear and concise introduction to Reformed Baptist distinctives

Dr. Sam Waldron is an extraordinarily gifted author whose works have often proven to be seminal to this pastor's life and thought. "A Reformed Baptist Manifesto" is no exception to this. Waldron's contention is that, just as the Old Mosaic Covenant served as the constitution of the Church of the Old Testament (Israel), even so the New Covenant prophesied in Jeremiah 31 is the constitution of the New Testament Church. So, if we seek to build a local church based upon the new covenant constitution, what would such a church look like? Waldron asserts that the church would take a strong stand on the perpetuity of God's moral law (the Ten Commandments), for the first blessing of the New Covenant is that God writes His law on the minds and hearts of His people. Such a church would believe and unashamedly preach the doctrines of grace, for the heirs of the New Covenant are God's elect, chosen by Him in Christ according to the good pleasure of His will. A New Covenant church would not be dispensational, for the terms of the new covenant are such that it is obvious that God has grafted believing Gentiles into the true Israel of God. The church would not baptize her infants, for one does not become an heir of the new covenant by natural birth, but by spiritual birth. Therefore, a New Covenant church would practice the baptism of disciples alone and recognize the connection between baptism and restorative church discipline. In the current evangelical landscape Waldron's book may surprise or even offend some, but what he is calling for is actually a return to our historic baptist roots. The doctrines he contends for were those held by the framers of the Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689, pioneer missionary William Carey, and well known pastor C.H. Spurgeon. In this pastor's opinion and experience standing upon these truths is a tremendous help in preaching the whole counsel of God to this generation. My only wish is that, perhaps in a future second edition, Waldron will write a fifth chapter on "The New Covenant Constitution of the Church and Theonomic Postmillenialism". I think he could do a masterful job showing that, while under the Old Covenant church and state were one, there is a biblical separation of church and state in the New Covenant. In any event, this is an extremely helpful work and a wonderful introduction to the distinctives of confessional Reformed Baptist churches.

Great Primer for a Reformed Baptist

I just read this book and it filled in a lot of gaps for me. I knew I was Reformed Baptist by listening to Reformed Baptist preachers, but after reading Mr. Waldron and Barcellos' book, I now know why precisely I am. I know where I fit in now and I am thankful for that. The thrust of the book is the New Covenant as the Constitution of the Church and how that works itself out as it relates to law and grace, Arminianism and Calvinism, Paedobaptism and Credobaptism.

I currently attend a Presbyterian PCA church and have many brethren there that I love, but some of their practices I cannot get over, as much as I have tried. One in particular is Paedobaptism (infant baptism.) Though not an exhaustive treatment, A Reformed Baptist Manifesto forcefully presents why Reformed Baptists do not hold to infant baptism and why they believe in Believer's Baptism only. I am not going to spoil why because I want you to buy the book. I have to admit that I skipped ahead and read the Paedobaptism chapter, but after reading the book I believe it probably would have been better to start at the beginning. This is not only chapter in the book or even its main argument, but it was the initial reason I purchased it. The Reformed Baptist Manifesto contains more than a fight about baptism. It allows one to understand why there is a denomination called Reformed Baptist. Paedobaptism is only one aspect that interested me, but after reading why it is rejected, I see much larger issues.

The book itself is easy to read, not too technical, and continues to be edifying to this believer. If you want a super technical treatise of everything this book is not for you. If you want a good overview with apologetic content, then you should like this book. It is a departure point to other works on the subject. It also does not contain a lot of history. The book is about the New Covenant as found in the book of Jeremiah and Hebrews and it gets to that topic immediately.

Concerning the book and its writing mechanics, I liked the larger print, but in reality it is a larger book because of the size of the print, not the content. Some of the grammar I thought was a little less polished in places, but nothing that could not be understood. I remember no misspelling or gross errors in the writing.

This work does what I think may be better than anything else. The Reformed Baptist Manifesto causes you to go back to the Bible and study for yourself, seeing and being interested in things you may have not thought about before.

I gave this book five stars because I believe it accomplishes what it is intending to do. It stays on topic and gives an overview and comparison to competing thoughts to clarify its thesis. The small faults above do not amount to enough to drop a star, and if you do not buy the book intending to find an encyclopedia, then you will be pleased with your purchase.

Scott Ott's "Laughing at Obama, Volume 1" is an evocative and satirical look at Barack Obama starting from his rise to fame within the Democratic Party to his historical presidential campaign to his first year and a half as the President of the United States.

Some of the articles are just plain out-and-out funny. With headlines such as "If Obama Won't Run, Dems Fear Dearth of Unknowns," "Obama, Clinton, to Redistribute Cash to Poorer Rivals," "Poll: Most Still Favor Obama Presidency Concept," and "Obama Policy Barrage Combats Dem Reelection Threat," there's lots of stuff that will make you laugh out loud.

In the midst of the humor and the poking-fun, there's a serious and heart-wrenching side to it as well. Reading this book will not only make you laugh but it will make you stop and think. Through his gift of satire, Scott shows us his love for the country and his desire for something better than what we're currently settling for with the Obama Administration.

Laughing While Crying

As with any political satire, we laugh because it's true. Scott Ott, in this hilarious take on the Obama candidacy and presidency, make us laugh when we should be crying. I bought this book and added it to my Kindle to read on a road trip. It was pretty distracting for the driver because I kept laughing at loud at some of Scott's observations. Highly recommend it despite any political leaning you might have. Good, clean fun.

A Powerful, and Well-written Book on Healing

Lorraine Michaels' book is one of the most powerful books about spirituality and who we really are in God that I have read in a very long time. If you want very clear directions about how to heal your soul, this extremely well-written and divinely inspired book is the one for you. I carry it everywhere with me (even though it is heavy!) and I find every day help with even small details of my life every day. If you are interested in healing, it is an essential reader. This book is not for everyone, but if you are interested in the Ascended Master's teachings, or are familiar with the published works of Elizabeth Clare Prophet, this book will be a wonderful addition to your library of books on healing the mind, body and soul.

Much recommended for the spiritual seeker

It is with great joy I say that this book is a wonderful book from the heart of Mother, from someone truly committed to the sake of the Great White Brotherhood. Every word is charged with the flame of Victory, and gives the reader insights into Creation, practical steps to freedom from illnesses, addictions, other issues, as well as much more. The book is like an icebreaker that cleaves through the lies of the serpent, and gives us a great opportunity to follow it, towards Being I AM through the different step/initiations and dark nights. But being an icebreaker is tough work, and so writing this book was no exception. In the end of the book, we are told how Lorraine had to face the lies of the serpent during the work with the book, and how challenging that was. But through great effort and total commitment to God, she managed to still Be the open door for the Holy Spirit, although being under attack from the serpent. This then became the judgment for this dark one. By tapping into this great Victory, we can overcome any obstacle in our path, any addiction.

The book has many practical tips, and contains many prayers and calls you can use throughout the day. If you have any problems in your life, this book is there to help you. It is brought forth through great sacrifice and effort, for the Love of God in You.

Life-changing book

This book changed my life and opened my spiritual eyes. It comes directly from the heart of Lorraine Michaels, one with the heart of the Ascended Masters, who revealed the mysteries of life and universe to her. It contains both practical advice on healing our soul, overcoming addictions and invoking spiritual protection, as well as profound esoteric teachings on the seven spheres of Creation, angels, the Great Rebellion in heaven, fall of Adam and Eve, and much more. Above all, it teaches about Being I AM - how to be our unique God flame and how to attain mastery over fear, shame, carnal desires, inferiority/superiority complex, and fulfill our divine plan. It offers a holistic approach to healing our soul and attaining union with God I AM. I am still coming back to this book, as it has so many layers, and each time I discover something new. A real treasure trove for the soul!

Great addition to my trail-guide bookshelf

This book is a sort of top-50 list of the best Colorado mountaineering routes that involve "real" climbing (class 3 and up). The photos and maps are first-rate, and the time estimates are a nice feature in any guidebook. Many of the routes given I've never heard of before (even on mountains which I've visited), so this book opens up a great set of new possibilities for my future climbs. Highly recommended for those Colorado mountain fans who are ready to move beyond the busy 14er routes to something more challenging.

Great book!

Mars-man needs to get out of Colorado more. "Scrambling" in the world at large does indeed have a specific meaning that includes 4th and lower 5th class climbing (probably more than it does just Class 3 climbing). I've climbed more than a dozen of the routes in the book including at least one that is not documented elsewhere and one using only this book as a guide and find the book to be a great guide to "interesting" routes throughout the state.

It has a nice balance of well-known classics and hidden gems and provides important information (like GPS coordinates for critical junctures) not available elsewhere. As far as the pictures go, well they are worth a thousand words especially when it comes to routefinding.

I kind of like the 1, 2, 3 general ratings for length and difficulty too (you know, "easy", "medium", "hard"?). It captures more than the technical difficulty of a route's hardest move. The traditional NCCS I-VI commitment grades could also have been used more widely, but I think 1,2,3 is more intuitive for the average person.

There is no expressed or implied correlation between the 1,2,3 length/difficulty ratings and the traditional Yosemite grade. E.g. nothing in the write-up of Kelso Ridge implies that it is any harder than Class 3 (which I find to be accurate).

To be sure, the climbs in this book are not for the beginner or inexperienced climber, but for the intermediate seeking to stretch their limits or the experienced climber looking to ply their craft, this is an outstanding compilation of climbs.

Outstanding photography and descriptions

When my Colorado friends first showed me this book, I sat down and went through every page just admiring the color photography. If this wasn't a guidebook, it could make a great coffee table book! Not only are the photos exceptional, but they also help you visualize the difficulty level of many of the crux portions of each route.

After my first pass through, I was also drooling about trying many of the routes described. There are some classic routes such as Sawtooth Ridge (between Mt. Evans and Mt. Bierstadt) and the Little Bear/Blanca traverse. Even these well-known routes came to life for me much better in this guidebook than any other I've seen.

Many of the 50 climbs in this book are ones I'm not familiar with. (note: although I live in New Mexico, I do a fair amount of climbing in Colorado as well) I've climbed 2 of the routes in the book so far, and found the maps and descriptions to be right on the money. My climbing partners have climbed about a dozen of the climbs, and agree that this is an excellent guide to all of them. They especially liked the inclusion of GPS waypoints for some of the routes where route finding is a particular problem.

If you have solid experience with moderate climbing and are ready for some wonderful new challenges, I highly recommend this book.

Cowabunga! This is the perfect gift book for a teenage girl. It's cute, it's "cool" and it's full of all the truths we want our teenage daughters to learn. I love the chapter, "When you ride the wave, ride it all the way." It's just the right size for a stocking stuffer, too.

Best Thing For My Daughter

I have been a surfer for 30 years. I bought this book for my daughter who has been reluctant to start surfing. The book inspired her to start and now she is giving the book as a gift to all her teenage friends. The Surf-vial Handbook is great for all ages.

Essential for every comedy actor and/or writer!

After reading this book, you will never look at sitcoms the same again! And if you are an actor (like I am), this is a very good thing! This book teaches you the eight characters of comedy that are in every sitcom and how each one is essential to the story and/or show. It also helps to identify which character you would best play and how to perfect that character. As one actor in a sea of actors, knowing your comedy niche and type is half the battle. If that's not enough, it also teaches you joke types, technique, and delivery.
If you are an actor auditioning or wanting to audition for sitcoms, this book is a must!

This book is good so far. We have the Kindle edition which is actually really difficult to read because of the format and because it's chock full of typos. If I had to do it over again, I'd buy the paperback version.

Can't stop seeing the eight characters in every aspect of life!

I'm an actor and I really enjoyed this book even more than I thought I would! The script excerpts he chooses are probably what sold me the most. They are so amazing, laugh out loud funny and very helpful. The other extremely useful parts, to my mind, are the characteristics of each of the eight characters. As an actor, it's literally a toolbox you can pull out when trying to figure out your type. And once you've homed in on your type, you can use the characteristics to more deeply explore your characters. I also really like how clearly he explains intentionality. Obviously this is something you see in a lot of acting books, but Scott Sedita has a way of making it very digestible.
Even if you're just a lover of sitcoms, you will get a huge kick out of this book.

John Crotts has served as Pastor-Teacher of Faith Bible Church in Sharpsburg, GA since 1995. He is a graduate of Liberty University and The Master's Seminary. John's other books include Mighty Men, Craftsmen, Loving the Church, and Tying the Knot Tighter, co-authored with Martha Peace.

Very helpful and easy to read

I picked up this book after someone at church recommended I read it. I have to be honest that my initial reaction was something like this, "Oh, a book on Proverbs. Now there's something that's never been done before."

After reading it I am very glad that I did. The author does a really splendid job of taking a topic that would seem to have been done before and formatting it in a way that is both extremely helpful and readable. Providentially, during the week I read the book several circumstances came up where I was able to quote either directly from the book or from the principles it promotes because it is laid out in such a functional and practical way.

If you are familiar with Jerry Bridges "Respectable Sins", this book is laid out in a similar manner. The first section of the book outlines the basic Biblical understanding of wisdom and its opposite, foolishness. Since the book is about how Proverbs applies to the lives of men, the author spends most of that time quoting from and explaining Proverbs view on wisdom. This could have been a very boring section of the book if it simply repeated the same things other people have written but thnkfully while there is some of that it is basically fresh and new. I especially like the simple but effective chart on page 26 that shows what looks like a number line with "Scoffing Fool" at one end, Wise Man at the other and Naive in the middle. He very compellingly makes the point that we are all somewhere on the continuum and moving in some direction at all times. Being wise is not a destination, it is a goal and the wise man who gives up on pursuing Godly wisdom ends up a fool (consider Solomon who ended up with 1000 wives and concubines after God made him the wisest man who ever lived).

The second part of the book is immeasurably practical and takes specific topics important to guys and breaks them down discussing what the Proverbs have to say about topics you'd expect to hear about. One of the pleasant surprises to me was that while things I expected to see were in there (speech, sex, etc.) there were also lots of things it never occurred to me that Proverbs talked about so strongly like accepting correction and taming our temper. The format of the book elevates the teaching of these topics to our minds far better than simply reading through Proverbs would do alone or even reading a chapter organized commentary on Proverbs.

The book also provides discussion questions after each chapter making very useful in men's Bible studies or discipleship groups. The questions are generally well thought out and include what he calls "gut check" questions that might be better for personal introspection but are very convicting if considered prayerfully.

My final thought is how well the totality of the content is packaged in the idea of being a skilled craftsman in the roles God has designed for us. Again it's a very useful twist on "another Proverbs book" that makes the book easy to read and practical for most of the guys who will read it. We work hard at being skillful at our jobs and the author has both made the case and provided some help and direction for us to apply the same motivation at home as a husband, father and friend.

Excellent Book on Family Leadership

Pastor and author, John Crotts, demonstrated in his first book "Mighty Men" that he understands male leadership in the family. Crotts appoaches his writing/teaching on the family from a commitment to the inspiration, authority, and sufficiency of Scripture. Many books written on family life begin, continue and end using secular psychological principles. Crotts successfully avoids this and holds up a high view of God and His Word.

"Craftsmen" promises to help one skilfully lead their family in a godly manner. Crotts delivers on his promise-- for the book begins with three chapters specifically dealing with the foundation of wisdom. Wisdom has been defined as "the skill to apply knowledge." Family wisdom is sorely needed in a day when family life is being undermined on a variety of fronts.

This book comes recommended by Jerry Bridges, Michael Haykin, and Tedd Tripp (author of "Shepherding a Child's Heart). Tripp says, "Many young men tell me they desire to lead their families but they do not know how; they have no solid examples of male leadership to follow. "Craftsmen" meets that need. Crotts writes with clarity and insight about how to find and exhibit wisdom in skillfully leading the family."

The greatest commendation for this book comes by example. Pastor Crotts is a devoted husband and father and is living out the principles that he teaches.

I can't recommend this book too highly. Get it. Read it. Learn it. Read it.

Craftsman

I purchased this book from Amazon after seeing it advertized on John Macarthur's Grace Books werbsite. I was looking for a book on how to lead my family for Christ but instead found a book on being a disciplined Christian. This in itself is a good thing but I felt like the title of this book mislead me. The author discusses several issues such as pride, work, and lust from the Book of Proverbs. I did find some aspects of the book helpful but the author does not address the root issues of sin but rather just tells us how to behave or face the consequences of Hell.
