About the Author
Rashid Darden is a refreshing voice in African American and gay literature. He brings to his writings a flavor influenced by years of eclectic experiences, from studying in Moscow and London to competing in poetry slams in his native Washington, DC; from working as an educator in an urban school district to serving as a national committee chairman for his fraternity. A graduate of Georgetown University, Rashid's novels are Lazarus, Covenant, and Epiphany.

Poetry Perfectly Paced

The collection of poems takes a reader on a journey from the first blush of love to eruption of the passion of love consummated to the letdown of love not returned. Darden manages to achieve the feat of allowing the reader to identify with the feelings of the poet even when the writer and the reader are of different genders. The book could be read as a companion to Darden's previous works or as a stand-alone piece of poetry. As in the case with all good poems, certain stanzas and lines stay with the reader long after the book is closed. I look forward to seeing what other efforts Darden produces. Savion Cortez is far too good of a poet to be limited to one book.

Beautiful Poetry

This volume of poetry is BEAUTIFUL. It has the qualities that I think good poetry should have - it's lyrical, vibrant, descriptive, and the themes are universal. It was such an easy read that I lost track of time. This is a truly talented author/poet.
