"Stitches in Time" is Leba Wine's fascinating novel that begins with her ancestress marrying a handsome (secretly Jewish) Hussar in the 1870's. Their daughter, a young girl of 12, flees alone the increasingly oppressive Eastern Europe to Pennsylvania. She is followed by her mother and brothers. Leba's maternal ancestors-her grandmother, great grandmother and her mother-strong women all, in oral and written tradition, enabled Leba to write the stories down, embellished by her imagination and memories of her childhood. About the Author
Leba Wine changed her name from Liebe in grade school, because her first-grade teacher kept mispronouncing it. A graduate of Smith College (Class of '53), she became a lawyer and married state senator David Wine from Arizona. They had four children. The quilt traveled to her daughter, Katie and now resides in the American Folk Art Museum in New York City. Leba Wine currently lives on the Central California Coast.
